Your PDFs are processed entirely on your device. We never sell or share your data.

1. Introduction

Welcome to QuillPDF — your all-in-one offline PDF toolkit for Android: merge, split, compress, convert, sign, watermark, scan, and organize your documents. This Privacy Policy explains what information QuillPDF accesses, how it is used, and the choices you have as a user.

QuillPDF is built as a local-first app. All PDF processing — merging, splitting, compressing, signing, OCR, scanning — happens entirely on your device. We do not operate any servers that store your documents or personal data. By using QuillPDF, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Access

QuillPDF processes your documents, photos, and scans entirely on your device. We do not collect or store anything on our own servers. Specifically:

PDF documents & images — files you open, merge, split, compress, sign, watermark, or convert are read and written only to your device's local storage. Nothing is uploaded.
Camera scans — photos captured with the built-in Document Scanner stay on your device and are only ever turned into a PDF locally.
Signatures — handwritten or image-based signatures you add via the Digital Signature tool are stored and embedded on-device; they are never transmitted.
Extracted text (OCR) — text recognized from scanned pages is produced and stays entirely on your device.
App preferences & document library — settings (like dark mode) and your document list (name, size, date, thumbnail) live in a private on-device database.
No account required — QuillPDF does not ask you to sign up, log in, or provide an email address.

3. How We Use Information

Everything QuillPDF accesses on your device is used solely to provide the in-app PDF tools you choose to run:

To list and organize the PDFs and documents you've created or imported.
To perform the PDF operation you request — merge, split, compress, convert, watermark, sign, reorder pages, or export.
To power the built-in Document Scanner, turning camera captures into cropped, cleaned-up PDF pages.
To run on-device OCR and show you the text extracted from scanned pages.
To remember your preferences and recent documents across sessions.

QuillPDF does not use your documents, scans, or personal usage patterns for profiling or selling to third parties. The internet connection QuillPDF requests is used only to display optional rewarded ads via Google AdMob (see Section 5). Your document content is never sent over the network.

4. Permissions Used

QuillPDF requests only the permissions necessary to function as a PDF editor, scanner, and ad-supported app:

READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE CAMERA INTERNET ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE

READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below only) — Required on older Android versions to open PDF files from shared storage. On Android 13+, QuillPDF uses the Android Photo Picker — a system-level picker that requires no storage permission at all.
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 9 and below only) — Required on older Android versions to save processed PDFs to shared storage.
CAMERA — Used only when you open the Document Scanner. QuillPDF never accesses the camera in the background.
INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — Used exclusively by Google AdMob to fetch and display optional rewarded ads. Your PDF documents and personal data are never transmitted over this connection.

QuillPDF does not request access to your contacts, microphone, location, or call logs. On Android 13 and above, no storage permission is needed — the system Photo Picker gives users full control over which files to share with the app.

5. Advertising — Google AdMob

QuillPDF is free to use and is supported by optional rewarded ads served by Google AdMob. Rewarded ads are strictly opt-in — after completing a PDF tool, you will see a dialog asking if you want to watch a short ad to support the app. You can always tap "Skip" to dismiss it. No ad is ever shown without your explicit consent.

Google AdMob may collect certain device information to serve relevant ads. This data collection is governed by Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and Google's Ads policies — not by QuillPDF. Your PDF content is never shared with AdMob.

Specifically, Google AdMob may collect or use:

Advertising ID — your device's resettable ad identifier, used by Google to serve and measure ads. You can reset or opt out of personalized ads at any time in your Android settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads).
Approximate device information — device type, OS version, and language — used by Google to ensure ads display correctly.
IP address — used by Google to determine the general region for ad serving and fraud prevention.
Ad interaction data — whether you watched, skipped, or clicked an ad — used by Google to measure ad performance.

QuillPDF itself does not receive, store, or process any of the above ad-related data. It remains entirely within Google's systems. We do not use AdMob data to profile users or target ads beyond what Google's own SDK does automatically.

To opt out of personalized ads on your Android device: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization. QuillPDF will continue to work normally; you may see non-personalized ads instead.

6. Third-Party Services & Libraries

QuillPDF uses the following libraries and services. Except for Google AdMob (Section 5), all are fully on-device with no data transmission:

Google AdMob — optional rewarded ad serving. Requires internet access; governed by Google's Privacy Policy. See Section 5 for full details.
Jetpack Compose — Google's modern Android UI toolkit (Apache 2.0). No data transmitted.
CameraX — Powers the Document Scanner's camera capture (Apache 2.0). No data transmitted.
Room Database — Local on-device database for your document library and preferences (Apache 2.0). No data transmitted.
Coil — Local image loading library for document thumbnails and previews (Apache 2.0). No data transmitted.
Google ML Kit Text Recognition — Powers OCR entirely on-device; scanned images and recognized text are never sent to Google or anywhere else.
AndroidX DataStore — Local settings storage (Apache 2.0). No data transmitted.

QuillPDF does not include Firebase, crash reporting, analytics, or any tracking SDK beyond AdMob.

7. Data Security

All PDF processing in QuillPDF happens on-device. Your documents cannot be accessed through this app by anyone other than you. Your data is protected by Android's app sandboxing, your device's screen lock, and storage encryption (Android 6.0+).

The only outbound network traffic QuillPDF initiates is the AdMob SDK requesting and displaying rewarded ads when you explicitly opt in. Your PDF files and personal data are not part of those requests.

If you uninstall QuillPDF, its local database is removed by Android. Your actual PDF and image files remain exactly where you saved or exported them.

8. Children's Privacy

QuillPDF is a document-editing and productivity tool intended for general users aged 13 and above. It is not specifically designed or marketed to children under 13.

QuillPDF contains optional rewarded ads served by Google AdMob. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used QuillPDF, please contact us via Section 10.

9. Your Rights

Because QuillPDF stores your data only on your own device, most rights are exercised directly:

Access — Every document, scan, and setting QuillPDF uses is visible to you in the app and your device's file system.
Deletion — Delete any PDF or scan from within QuillPDF. To remove all app data: Android Settings → Apps → QuillPDF → Storage → Clear Data, or uninstall the app.
Portability — Your PDFs and images are standard files you fully own; move, copy, or share them freely.
Opt out of rewarded ads — Simply tap "Skip" whenever the ad opt-in dialog appears. The app continues to work fully without watching any ad.
Opt out of personalized ads — Go to Android Settings → Privacy → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization.
Reset Advertising ID — Go to Android Settings → Privacy → Ads → Reset Advertising ID.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:

Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
Notify users via an in-app notice on the next launch if the changes are material.
Seek your explicit consent before any change involving new types of data collection takes effect.
